Clinical application of sulfaclozine sodium

2021-06-08

Pharmacology

Sulfaclozine sodium is a sulfonamide anticoccidial drug, mostly used as a short-term application during coccidial outbreaks.

The peak activity of sulfachloropyrazine sodium against coccidia is the 2nd generation of coccidia cleavage, and it also has some effect on the 1st generation of cleavage. However, it is ineffective against the sexual cycle. The mechanism of anticoccidial action of this product is the same as that of sulfoquinoxaline.

It is very similar to sulfisoxazole and is rapidly absorbed in the digestive tract after internal administration, with peak blood concentration in 3-4 hours and rapid excretion in urine.

Uses

(1) Poultry: The action characteristics of sulfaclozine against coccidia in poultry are similar to those of sulfoquinoxaline, and it has stronger antibacterial effect, even treating poultry cholera and chicken typhoid, so it is most suitable for the treatment of coccidiosis outbreak.

Application of sulfaclozine does not affect host immunity to coccidia.

(2) Others: This product is also effective against coccidiosis and can be added at 600g per 1000kg of feed.

For coccidiosis in lambs, a 3% solution of 1.2mL per lkg body weight can be administered internally for 3-5 days.

Attention

(1) Although the toxicity of this product is lower than that of sulfaquinoxaline, long-term application may still show symptoms of sulfonamide poisoning, so broiler chickens can only be used at the recommended concentration for 3 days in a row, and no more than 5 days at most.

(2) In view of the fact that most farms in China have been applying sulfonamides (such as SQ, SM2, etc.) for decades, coccidia may have developed resistance or even cross-resistance to sulfonamides.

(3) Forbidden for laying hens and flocks over 16 weeks of age.

(4) Rest period: 4 days for turkeys and 1 day for broilers.

Application Note

1)Poultry and rabbits who use sulfa drugs for a long time are prone to develop resistance to this product.

2)It can reduce the egg production rate of chickens, so it is prohibited for laying hens and chickens above 16 weeks old.

(3) It should not be used as feed additive for a long time.

4)Soluble powder rest period: 4d for turkeys, 1d for broilers, prohibited during egg production.

(5) Although the toxicity of sulfachloropyrazine is lower than that of sulfaquinoline, long-term application will still show symptoms of sulfa poisoning, therefore, broiler chickens can only be used for 3 d in a row according to the recommended concentration, not exceeding 5 d at most.
